Which opperating system is better?
44Which operating system is better?
Windows vs Mac vs Linx, you might have hear about none of these at all, but to use your computer you need one of these, and I will explain everything you need to know about them.
Windows – This is the most popular, but in my experience is the most problematic and all the software you need just to browse the internet to keep you safe is ridiculous. Windows is the most compatible of all of these operating systems but is quite pricey and one person reading this could have a virus. One thing I would give credit to windows is it is very user friendly compared to linux, and I guess to make it more simple it leaves security problems.
Mac – I have never really experienced any of the snow leopard operating systems, I only have an ipod, which I can say is very good, they look ellagent perform outstanding and you don't need tonnes of room for the desktop, its only a screen. Now it does come at a hefty price, but I guess you get what you pay for, but I don't know many people who would casually go out and spend over £1000 on a computer, but its all one piece of kit.
Linux – Linux is free, runs on most computers, even macs, and looks sort of like a mac too. It is free, everything that comes with it is free, and my installation with everything I need comes to 2.5GB where as JUST the windows operating system is 16GB (Windows ultimate). Having said that linux is complicated and you need to enter commands to install things. There is however an add on called WINE which allows you to run windows programs with linux, but I don't know where that leaves you with security risks.
Now in another article I will show you a Windows dual boot and a Mac dual boot. I will also show you the benefits, and problems this will leave you in.
A Dual boot is where you can have two (or more!) operating systems on your computer, and you can choose between them at start-up.
Server editions
Linux also offers a server edition (Which is free, like all of their products), I personally have not tried out ANY server software by any manufacturer, but I know that a lot of servers run Linux because it is free, very usable, and can be used on a lot of computers/servers.
